In 1997 the district started the Conservation Field Day held annually the third Wednesday in September at the Winfield City Lake. Fourth and fifth graders from Cowley County gather to learn about the importance of soil and water conservation.
Students and their teachers travel through a series of stations during their morning or afternoon session. Stations in the past have included a rainfall simulator, range management, biology, forestry, household hazardous waste, soil probe, composting, a stream trailer and wildlife. These stations offer fun hands-on education of conservation.
This day would not be possible without the district's many partners who assist us. We thank them for all their help, as well as the students who attend.
